ix35 Boost Pressure Actuator Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Hyundai ix35 diesel exhibited symptoms such as a check engine light, reduced power, poor engine response, whistling and hissing noises during acceleration, stalling at idle, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause was a boost pressure actuator fault or an electrical bypass valve issue. The problem was confirmed to be the boost pressure actuator, and after repair, the vehicle's performance improved significantly.

I haven't personally checked the hoses. Is it something easily visible, or do I need to remove a bunch of parts to get to it? I'm not sure I would know a cracked hose if I saw one.

If you're not comfortable poking around, and given the idling and stalling, it's best to get it checked by a professional. My issue was a faulty boost pressure actuator causing the turbo wastegate to malfunction. Symptoms were very close to yours. Turned out to be a defective electrical bypass valve. It's not always easy to diagnose without the right tools. Expect to pay around 250€ for the repair.

I took your advice and brought it to my local workshop. Indeed, it was the boost pressure actuator at fault. I'm 250€ lighter, but the car runs great now!

I had a similar situation with my ix35, though not exactly the same symphony of noises. The whistling and hissing, combined with the power loss, points towards a boost leak somewhere in the turbo system. Have you checked for any obvious cracks or loose connections in the hoses going to and from the turbo?
