ix35 Electrical Issues

I'm having some weird electrical issues with my 2015 Hyundai ix35 diesel. It's got about 148840 km on the clock. I'm getting sporadic errors in driving mode, and sometimes the error lamps light up randomly. I've also had failures in the audio/navigation system. Occasionally, a control unit just shuts down or becomes completely unresponsive. I plugged in a scan tool, and it's showing errors stored in the memory, but nothing specific. I'm thinking it might be a loose connection somewhere, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Hyundai ix35 diesel is experiencing sporadic electrical issues, including random error lamps, failures in the audio/navigation system, and unresponsive control units. The problem might be due to a loose or defective connection, particularly in the wiring harness or ground points. A suggestion to check the main ground connections and seek professional workshop assistance led to the discovery and repair of a defective cable connection to the BUS system control unit.

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar thing happen with my old Opel Astra a few years back. It wasn't exactly the same, but I was getting random warning lights and the infotainment system would act up. Turned out to be a bad ground connection in the wiring harness. Have you checked the main ground points under the hood and near the battery? Also, have you noticed if it happens more when it's wet or cold?

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't specifically checked the ground points yet, but that's a good idea. Do you remember where the main ground points were located on your Astra? And did the scan tool show any specific error codes, or was it just a bunch of random ones like I'm getting?

On the Astra, there was one near the battery and another on the engine block. Honestly, the scan tool was throwing all sorts of nonsense, which made it even more confusing. My advice? Take it to a trusted workshop. Electrical gremlins can be a pain to track down, and they have the right equipment to diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the info and the advice! I took your suggestion and brought it in to the workshop. They confirmed it was a defective cable connection to the BUS system control unit, just like you suspected. They repaired it for 155€. Appreciate the help!
