Jaguar Emergency Call Module Triggers Warning Nightmare

Recently my 2001 Jaguar XJ started acting up with warning lights and error messages in the speedometer display. The onboard diagnostic shows stored errors, and I suspect the telematics system could be causing these issues, specifically the emergency call control module. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms where their SOS signal system triggered multiple warning indicators? Looking for actual repair experiences and fixes from workshops, not just general advice. Particularly interested in knowing if replacing the emergency call module resolved similar issues and what the repair process involved.

As someone with moderate experience in car repairs, I dealt with a very similar issue on my 2003 Jaguar XK8, which shares many electronic components with your XJ model. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I encountered, multiple warning lights and diagnostic codes related to the telematics system. The main problem turned out to be a faulty connection between the emergency call control module and the main wiring harness, triggering unusual call failure alerts and system warnings. My workshop found that moisture had corroded one of the main connector pins leading to the SOS signal module. They cleaned the connections, replaced the damaged plug, and resealed the whole assembly. The repair cost was 95€ and completely resolved all warning lights and error messages. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Which warning lights are illuminated? Are you getting any specific error messages? Does the SOS button show any status light? Have you noticed if the issues get worse in wet weather? This information would help determine if your problem matches what I experienced or if there might be other underlying issues with the telematics system.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. After the last service at 108822 KM, I started seeing constant amber warning lights on my dash. The SOS signal warning is illuminated continuously, along with a malfunction indicator in the center display. The emergency call button shows a red status light that blinks occasionally. The automotive electronics issues definitely worsen when driving in rain. The control module diagnostic codes continue showing up even after clearing them.

Thanks for those additional details. Given what you described, this matches exactly what happened with my XK8 before the repair. The blinking red SOS light and weather-related symptoms strongly suggest the same connector corrosion issue I experienced. Since your issues started after the service, check if any work was done near the telematics module. Sometimes routine maintenance can disturb these connections or expose them to moisture. The continuous amber warning and malfunction indicators point to a communication fault between the emergency call system and the main vehicle electronics. In my case, the diagnostic codes kept returning because the corroded connector was causing intermittent signal failures. The automotive electronics would detect these breaks in communication and trigger new error codes, even after clearing them. A thorough inspection of the emergency call control module wiring harness should reveal similar corrosion or moisture damage. The fix likely requires cleaning or replacing the connectors and properly sealing them against moisture intrusion. The repair approach that worked for me was first having the workshop trace the exact location of the connector fault using specialized diagnostic equipment, then replacing the affected components. Since your symptoms are nearly identical, you might want to have them focus on the wiring connections rather than replacing the entire telematics module.

Thank you all for the helpful responses. I decided to take my XJ to a certified workshop that specializes in automotive electronics. The diagnostic codes pointed directly to the emergency call system as suspected. They performed a complete system reset after finding corroded connectors near the telematics module. The total repair came to 285€, which included: cleaning and replacing damaged connector pins, Resealing the entire module housing, Programming and calibrating the new components, Full diagnostic scan to verify the fix After two weeks of driving in various weather conditions, I can confirm all warning lights have stayed off. The SOS signal system now shows normal operation with a steady green status light. The car safety systems are all functioning correctly according to the latest scan. For anyone facing similar issues, I recommend having a professional trace the exact fault before replacing major components. My case proved that connector problems often trigger these telematics failures, rather than a faulty module itself.

Good day, my XF 3.0 started reporting an SOS error, limited functionality. Before that, the mirrors stopped folding, and according to one forum, they recommended a hard reset by disconnecting the battery, which helped, but it showed the SOS error, limited functionality. Have you encountered this?

Try checking the fuses related to the telematics and mirror systems first, as a blown fuse could cause these issues. If the fuses are intact, inspect the wiring connections for any signs of corrosion or damage, especially around the telematics module. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!
