Jaguar F Type Steering Controls Dead, Module Failure

Looking for help with my 2018 F Type steering wheel controls. None of the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel are responding anymore, volume, cruise control, menu navigation, all dead. Vehicle diagnostics showed a stored error related to the steering wheel module. The rest of the car functions normally, but this is really limiting functionality while driving. Has anyone dealt with a similar electrical fault? Particularly interested in hearing what the root cause was in your case and what repairs were needed to fix it. The malfunction indicator is not lit, which makes it even more puzzling. Would appreciate insights on repair costs and time needed at the workshop for this type of connectivity problem.

Had a similar electrical fault on my 2016 F Pace with the multifunction steering controls failing completely. As someone who has worked on basic car maintenance, but leaves electrical issues to professionals, I knew this needed expert attention. The steering column wiring harness can develop connectivity issues due to repeated movement and flexing. In my case, the workshop found a damaged cable connection inside the steering wheel that was causing intermittent failures of all controls. Total repair time was about 2 hours and cost 95€, which included diagnostics and replacing the faulty connection in the steering wheel module. Since the fix, all controls have worked perfectly. To help diagnose your specific case, could you share: Any recent work done on the steering system, Whether the issue appeared suddenly or developed gradually, If you notice any intermittent function of the controls, Whether the buttons feel different physically when pressed The symptoms sound very similar, but these details would help confirm if you are dealing with the same root cause. A proper diagnostic scan should pinpoint the exact location of the malfunction indicator codes stored in the system.

Last serviced at 147711KM, wanted to share that replacing the steering wheel slip ring assembly resolved the connectivity problem in my case. The vehicle diagnostics revealed multiple stored fault codes pointing to the clockspring mechanism. The sensor issue turned out to be wear in the internal contacts after 5 years of regular use. Labor took around 3 hours and parts cost 280€. This repair completely restored full functionality to all multifunction steering controls. Would recommend having a shop with Jaguar-specific diagnostic equipment check it, as generic scanners may not communicate properly with all steering wheel modules.

Thanks for sharing those repair details about the slip ring replacement. Glad it resolved your multifunction steering problems. My F Pace actually showed similar fault codes when the control module was scanned. Looking back, I probably should have checked the clockspring first before replacing just the wiring connection, since that ended up being a temporary fix. The intermittent sensor issue returned after a few months and I ultimately needed the complete slip ring assembly replaced as well. The vehicle diagnostics indicated nearly identical symptoms, multiple stored faults related to the steering column electronics. My repair also took about 3 hours of labor but cost slightly more at 310€ for parts since I waited longer to address it. For others reading who may encounter steering wheel control failures: the clockspring/slip ring is a common wear item on these vehicles around the 140000-150000km mark. Having the complete assembly replaced rather than attempting partial repairs tends to be the most reliable long-term solution when the steering column starts showing these kinds of electrical faults.

Good call getting the slip ring assembly replaced. After researching more online about the F Type steering control issues, I noticed many owners reporting similar problems around the 150000km mark. The vehicle diagnostics really helped pinpoint the clockspring as the source of the connectivity problem. My total repair cost of 280€ plus labor seems in line with what others paid. The sensor issue with the slip ring appears to be a known wear point. Really glad I had it properly diagnosed rather than trying cheaper partial fixes that might have failed again later. The steering wheel now works perfectly, all buttons responsive and no more electrical fault codes stored. For anyone else facing this, getting a proper diagnostic scan is essential since generic readers often miss the specific steering wheel module codes. A complete slip ring replacement, while more expensive upfront, is definitely the right fix for this type of failure.
