Jaguar S Type Diesel: Rough Running & Stalling Issues Fix

Had similar symptoms on my Jaguar XF 2005 diesel with 82k km. The vehicle performance was severely compromised due to dirty fuel injectors affecting emissions and overall engine behavior. The injection valves were indeed the culprit. When removed, they showed significant carbon buildup blocking proper fuel atomization. The repair required specialized equipment to test and clean the injectors. The entire process included removing, bench testing, ultrasonic cleaning, and calibrating all injectors before reinstallation. This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention since poor injection can lead to engine damage if left untreated. Dirty injectors cause improper gasoline-air mixture, resulting in rough running, poor starting, and excessive fuel consumption, exactly the symptoms you describe. After replacement and programming of the injectors, the engine returned to smooth operation with proper idle, normal fuel consumption, and restored performance. The repair required specific diagnostic tools and expertise in diesel injection systems. This is not a job for inexperienced mechanics. Look for workshops specializing in diesel injection systems, particularly those familiar with Jaguar powertrains.

Thanks for sharing that experience. Your injection system fix sounds exactly like what I went through with my S Type last year. My engine had all those same symptoms, terrible performance, rough idle, and massive fuel consumption. Made me nervous every time I started it up. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the injector repair set you back? Also, has everything stayed running smoothly since the fix? No other issues popping up? I went the specialist route too after a misfire scare, but always good to compare notes on repair costs and long-term reliability.

The injection nozzle repair resolved all issues completely, no problems in the 8 months since the fix. My vehicle runs perfectly now with smooth idle and normal fuel consumption. The specialist charged 515€ for cleaning and recalibrating the defective injection system. This included complete diagnostics, removal, ultrasonic cleaning, and precise programming of the injectors. The investment was worth it since proper diesel injection is crucial for engine longevity. Poor atomization can lead to serious engine damage and continued misfire issues if left unaddressed. Getting it done by a certified diesel specialist was key, they had the right diagnostic equipment and expertise for these complex injection systems. Going to a proper specialist might cost more initially but prevents expensive repairs down the line. The improved fuel economy alone helps offset the repair costs. My Jaguar now starts reliably and maintains steady power delivery just like when it was new.

Thanks for the advice. Finally went to get it sorted at a diesel specialist shop. The symptoms matched exactly what you described, they found heavy carbon deposits in the injectors affecting the entire fuel delivery system. The repair cost came to 580€ including thorough diagnostics, cleaning, and reprogramming all injectors. More than I hoped to spend but the engine runs like new now. Amazing difference in performance and fuel economy. No more rough starts or stalling issues. Really glad I chose a proper specialist this time instead of going back to my regular mechanic. They clearly knew what they were doing with these diesel engines. Their diagnostic equipment picked up issues my previous shop missed completely. Going on 3 weeks now with perfect running conditions. The Jag starts instantly, idles smoothly and has all its power back. Fuel consumption is back to normal too. Should have done this months ago instead of worrying about the cost. Sometimes paying more upfront for proper expertise saves money in the long run.
