Jaguar XJ Cruise Control Failure Points to Throttle Issues

My Jaguar XJ 2.7 Diesel (2004, 88k km) shows an error message on the dashboard and the cruise control stopped working entirely. The mechanic I went to last time did not fix it properly and charged me anyway. Any ideas what could cause this malfunction? I had the error code read but would like to hear some advice before going back to a repair shop. Has anyone experienced similar issues with the cruise control system and throttle body? Looking for recommendations on what to check first and tips for dealing with the repair.

Having experienced similar issues with my Jaguar S Type 2.7D from 2007, I can share some relevant insights about cruise control failures. The main problem often traces back to either the throttle body connections or faulty wiring in the steering wheel controls. In my case, the diagnostics revealed corroded pins in the main connector to the throttle body, which caused intermittent cruise control failure and error messages. Key points to check: Throttle body electrical connections for corrosion or loose fitting, Steering wheel control module connections, Fuse box for any blown cruise control related fuses, Brake pedal position sensor functionality The throttle body connection issue is quite serious as it can affect overall engine performance and fuel economy, not just cruise control. The car electronics in Jaguars from this era are known to develop connection issues due to their sensitivity to moisture. I would strongly suggest getting a full diagnostic scan before any repairs. A competent technician should check the entire cruise control circuit, not just replace parts. The fault often lies in the connections rather than the components themselves. This turned out to be a significant repair requiring specialized knowledge of Jaguar car electronics systems. The fix involved cleaning all connections, replacing some corroded pins, and recalibrating the throttle body.

I had the exact same cruise control malfunction on my XJ last year, sounds identical to your situation with the dashboard error and complete system failure. The repair involved both the throttle body cleaning and some electrical work with the steering wheel controls. Was wondering how much you ended up paying for the fix? My repair bill came to 450€ including diagnostics. Also curious if you have experienced any other electrical issues since then? After my repair, everything worked perfectly for about 6 months but then I noticed some intermittent flickering of the dashboard lights.

Great news, I had the cruise control non-functional issue completely resolved last week. After proper diagnostics, they found a faulty cable connection at the actuator unit. The total repair cost was just 95€ which was surprisingly reasonable compared to your experience. Since the repair, the cruise control system has been working flawlessly with no dashboard error messages. The malfunction turned out to be much simpler than initially suspected, just a loose connection rather than a complete component failure. Regarding your dashboard light flickering, have not experienced any similar electrical issues since the repair. That sounds like it could be related to the car electronics system voltage. Might be worth getting that checked separately as it could indicate a different underlying problem. The key was finding a mechanic who properly diagnosed the root cause instead of just replacing parts. They specifically tested all the connections in the cruise control circuit before determining the exact point of failure.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Just wanted to share how my situation got resolved. After reading the responses, I took my car to a different repair shop specializing in vehicle electronics. The technician performed thorough diagnostics and found multiple issues with the cruise control system. The main problem turned out to be corroded wiring near the throttle body, plus a failing steering wheel control module. The total repair came to 380€ including parts and labor. The mechanic also cleaned all the electrical connections while the system was apart. Been driving for 2 weeks now and the cruise control works perfectly, no more error messages or malfunctions. The dashboard displays are all functioning normally too. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of going back to the first shop that couldn't fix it properly. Big difference having a technician who knew exactly what to look for in the electrical system rather than just guessing and replacing unusual parts. Definitely worth finding someone with proper diagnostic equipment and experience with these systems.
