Jeep Compass Power Seat Failure: Repair Guide
Summary of the thread
The power seat failure in a 2023 Jeep Compass is likely due to water damage, as indicated by dampness and corrosion found under the passenger seat. The issue began after heavy rain, suggesting moisture intrusion into the seat motor or wiring. Suggested solutions include inspecting and drying affected components, replacing corroded connectors, and possibly replacing the seat motor assembly. Additionally, checking and improving weatherproofing and seals is recommended to prevent future water-related issues.

Just had the vehicle serviced at 146782 KM, and I cant see any other electrical problems. The driver power seat works perfectly fine. No warning lights on the dash except for the seat module error. Battery is relatively new, replaced it 6 months ago and voltage tests show its healthy. I did notice the passenger seat adjustment stopped working right after a particularly heavy rain, which makes me suspect water might have gotten into the seat motor or wiring. Could moisture be causing the power seat malfunction?

Thanks for the additional details. Since water exposure seems to coincide with your seat adjustment problems, moisture is definitely a likely culprit. When my Cherokee had similar issues, I also initially suspected the battery, but your situation sounds more like water damage. The electric seat mechanisms are typically protected, but heavy rain can sometimes find its way into the connectors or seat motor housing through small gaps or deteriorated seals. In my case, while the battery was the issue, I learned quite a bit about the seat system layout during repairs. A few things to check: 1. Look under the seat for any signs of water pooling 2. Check the carpet under and around the passenger seat for dampness 3. Inspect visible wiring connectors for corrosion 4. Try manually moving the seat while listening for grinding in the seat motor Worth noting that water damage to power seats can range from 200 Euro-800 Euro depending on what components need replacement. The seat motor itself might need replacement if water has caused internal corrosion. Unlike my battery-related problem, water damage often requires: Drying out the affected components, Replacing corroded connectors, Possibly replacing the entire seat motor assembly, Sealing any points where water might be entering Consider having a professional inspect the seals and drainage points around the door and floor pan near the passenger seat. Water intrusion often points to a larger weatherproofing issue that should be addressed to prevent future problems.

Thanks for all the helpful information. After checking under the seat as suggested, I definitely found some dampness in the carpet and what looks like corrosion on one of the seat wiring connectors. This pretty much confirms my suspicion about water damage being the culprit. Going to schedule an appointment to have the power seats checked by a professional. Will have them look at the weatherproofing and seals while they are at it, since I want to prevent this from happening again. The seat motor might need replacement based on what you described, but at least I know what to expect cost-wise now. Good call on checking the components under the seat, would have never thought to look there for water damage. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences with electric seat issues. This helped narrow down the problem and saved me some diagnostic time.

Had the same issue with my 2021 Jeep Cherokee. After some troubleshooting, the seat harness and seat adjustment system were completely unresponsive, similar to your situation. With some experience working on basic car electronics, I first checked the obvious, fuses and connections. The root cause turned out to be a heavily discharged battery that damaged some electronic components. The weak battery caused voltage drops, affecting the seat motor and control module. The repair involved: 1. Battery replacement 2. Reset of the seat control module 3. Testing all seat wiring connections 4. Full system diagnostic scan Total repair cost was 290 Euro at my regular workshop. They completed the work in about 3 hours. Could you share: Whether you notice any other electrical issues? Does the driver seat still work normally? Are there any warning lights on the dashboard? Have you had any recent battery problems? This would help determine if youre facing the same underlying issue. The passenger seat electronics are usually tied to the main electrical system, so its worth checking the battery first before replacing expensive seat components.
