Jeep Patriot Mirror Heat Failure Fix Costs Revealed

Looking for advice on my Jeep Patriot mirror heating problem. Mirror heating stopped working completely and the error code keeps showing up. Already got burned by a mechanic last time, so want to hear about similar experiences before going back. Its a 2010 model, gas engine with 198035 km. Has anyone dealt with this winter driving issue and can share what the actual problem was and repair costs?

Had the same issue on my 2013 Jeep Compass with the heater element. The error code pointed to the mirror heating system failing intermittently. Temperature control for the mirrors would not engage at all, making winter driving quite challenging. The root cause turned out to be a corroded wire harness connection at the mirror base. The connection had deteriorated due to water intrusion, causing the circuit to fail. This is actually a common vehicle safety concern on these models. The repair involved replacing the entire wire harness assembly and checking the car mirror heating elements. While not a major mechanical issue, it required partial door panel removal to access the connections properly. The heating function was fully restored after replacing the damaged components. For reference, this type of electrical problem should be diagnosed with proper testing equipment to verify if its the connection or the heating element itself that failed. A competent shop should be able to pinpoint the exact cause before starting repairs. Similar symptoms could also indicate a blown fuse or damaged switch, but given the error code, its likely the wiring connection in your case too.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the mirror heating issue. I had a similar heater element failure in my 2010 Patriot that really made cold weather driving difficult. The wire harness repair definitely solved it for me too. I am curious what they charged you for the fix, and have you noticed any other temperature control issues since getting it repaired? The passenger side mirror on mine occasionally acts up during extreme cold but nothing major so far.

Took my vehicle to the mechanic last week after our earlier discussion about the rearview mirror heating problem. Happy to report the repair was successful and much cheaper than expected, just 95 Euro to fix a faulty cable connection at the mirror base. The heating now works perfectly on both sides, making winter driving much safer. Since the repair, the temperature control system has been working flawlessly, even during the recent cold snap. No issues with either mirror heating element. Your occasional passenger side trouble during extreme cold might be worth checking, could be an early sign of a loose connection developing there too. The car mirror diagnostic showed it was indeed just the wiring connection causing the problem, not the heating elements themselves. Getting it fixed early probably prevented more extensive damage to the vehicle safety systems. Much better outcome than having to replace the entire mirror assembly.

Here's my experience after getting it fixed. Took it to a local shop and the bill came to 280 Euro for diagnosing and repairing the electrical fault in the mirror assembly. The mechanic found corroded wiring near the heater element connection, just like you mentioned. The temperature control now works perfectly in all weather conditions. No more error codes or heating issues. Vehicle safety is back to normal with clear mirrors during winter drives. The repair process was straightforward, they replaced the wire harness and tested both mirrors for proper function. Turns out my previous mechanic had only replaced a fuse without checking the actual wiring problem. This time they did a proper diagnosis of the car mirror system before starting repairs. Really glad I asked for advice here before spending money on another incomplete fix. The whole repair took about 2 hours and they even showed me the damaged wiring that caused all the trouble. Much better experience than my last attempt to get this fixed.
