Jeep Renegade Alarm Failure Linked to Aux Battery Issue

My Jeep Renegade 2017 Diesel (46415km) started acting up with an error code and the car alarm stopped working completely. After a battery check, it seems the auxiliary battery for the alarm system might be failing. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Looking for experiences before visiting another mechanic, as my last repair shop visit was disappointing. How serious is this and what should I expect for repairs?

Had a similar electrical issue with my Jeep Cherokee 2020 Diesel at 52000km. The system diagnosis revealed a failing auxiliary battery that powers the car alarm and some auxiliary systems. The auxiliary battery is separate from the main car battery and commonly fails around 40-60k kilometers. When it starts failing, it typically shows these symptoms: error codes appearing out of nowhere, car alarm malfunction, and occasional electrical glitches in the central locking system. The repair involves replacing the auxiliary battery unit and running a complete system check to ensure no other electrical components were affected. This is not a critical safety issue, but should be addressed promptly to prevent potential security vulnerabilities and other electrical system malfunctions. The job took about 2 hours at the garage. Make sure they perform a full electrical system test after replacement, as sometimes the main car battery can be strained from compensating for the failing auxiliary unit. Ask for the battery manufacturing date when getting a replacement, this helps track future maintenance needs. Best to have this fixed at a garage familiar with Jeep electrical systems, as the battery location and replacement procedure requires specific knowledge of the model.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The symptoms you described match my auxiliary battery problem perfectly. I replaced mine a few months ago when the battery alarm kept going off and the alarm system started acting weird. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Also curious if you encountered any other battery problems since the replacement? My mechanic mentioned something about checking the alternator output too, but I am not sure if that was really necessary. I want to compare costs since repair quotes can vary quite a bit for these electrical system repairs, especially when dealing with a battery signal issue.

After fixing my auxiliary battery alarm system defective warning, everything has worked perfectly for the past 8 months. The total repair came to 330 Euro, which included the new battery and labor costs. The battery problem was diagnosed as simple age-related deterioration. The mechanic did a thorough battery check on both the main and auxiliary systems. In my case, the alternator output test wasn't necessary since the main battery was still performing well. The car alarm system now works flawlessly, and I haven't seen any battery alarm warnings since the repair. For reference, a basic auxiliary battery replacement typically costs between 250-400 Euro, depending on the specific part needed. Since the fix, all electrical systems have been running smoothly with no warning lights or alarm system glitches. If your mechanic suggests an alternator check, it might be worth getting a second opinion if there are no obvious charging issues. The auxiliary battery replacement alone usually resolves these types of alarm system problems.

Thanks everyone for the input. I finally got my Jeep fixed last week after getting tired of the constant battery alarm warnings. Found a specialized garage that really knew their stuff with Jeep electrical systems. The total bill came to 295 Euro which included the auxiliary battery replacement and a complete system diagnosis. They found nothing wrong with the alternator, so I saved some money there. The whole repair took about 1.5 hours. The mechanic showed me how the old auxiliary battery had completely degraded, which explained all those alarm system malfunctions. Been a week now and everything works perfectly, no more error codes, and the car alarm is functioning like new. Much better experience than my previous repair shop. The new place did a thorough battery check on both batteries and even programmed the new auxiliary battery to the car's computer. Definitely worth finding the right specialist for these electrical system issues.
