Jeep Renegade Fan Failure Causes Engine Overheating
Summary of the thread
The core problem was the engine overheating in a 2021 Jeep Renegade due to the radiator fan not functioning properly. Possible causes included a failing electric fan motor or, more likely, a corroded connector at the fan control module, as suggested by another user with a similar issue. The recommended solution was to inspect and clean the electrical connections, which resolved the overheating without needing a full fan replacement. This approach saved costs and restored normal engine cooling.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the cooling fan issue. The symptoms you described are exactly what I experienced with my Renegade last summer. Do you recall how much the repair cost in your case? Also curious if youve had any other cooling system problems since getting it fixed. My local shop initially quoted a complete fan motor replacement which seemed excessive. If its just connector corrosion like in your case, that would be a much simpler fix for the vehicle overheating issue.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. The electric fan issue was resolved at a much lower price than a full replacement, just 95 Euro to clean and repair the faulty cable connection at the cooling system control module. Since fixing that connector problem, the temperature control has worked flawlessly. The vehicle overheating concerns completely disappeared, and the electric motor for the cooling fan runs exactly as it should. No other cooling system problems have emerged in the months following the repair. Your instinct about the full fan replacement being excessive is likely correct. Most electric fan failures at low mileage are connection-related rather than motor issues. A thorough inspection of the wiring and connectors should be the first step before replacing costly components.

After getting this advice, I decided to get a second opinion from another repair shop. The mechanic there immediately spotted the corroded connector at the fan control module, just like mentioned here. Total repair cost came to 120 Euro, mainly labor for cleaning connections and testing the cooling system thoroughly. The fan now kicks in properly when needed, and my engine cooling is back to normal. The temperature gauge stays steady even in slow traffic. Such a relief it wasnt a complete radiator fan replacement. Vehicle overheating is completely resolved. Looking back, taking the time to research and get that second opinion saved me from an unnecessary expensive repair. The cooling system has been working perfectly for the past few months. Definitely learned to question high repair quotes and look for simpler solutions first.

Dealt with a similar engine cooling issue on my 2018 Jeep Compass Diesel last year. The symptoms matched exactly, temperature gauge climbing and radiator fan running intermittently. The problem turned out to be a faulty connection between the fan motor control module and the main wiring harness. Corrosion had built up in the connector, preventing proper electric motor function. This caused the cooling fan to operate erratically, leading to overheating during normal driving conditions. While the repair was straightforward, leaving it unchecked could have led to severe engine damage. The cooling system plays a critical role in temperature control. A malfunctioning fan can quickly lead to overheating, especially in stop-and-go traffic. The low mileage on your Renegade suggests this could be a similar connector issue rather than a complete fan motor failure. Having the electrical connections cleaned and secured should restore proper cooling function. Best to have it checked soon to prevent any potential engine damage. Tip: Ask the technician to inspect all cooling system connections, not just the fan motor, since these issues often occur together.
