Jetta Hybrid Oil Pressure Fix Reveals Hidden Sludge

I had a similar issue with my 2015 VW Golf Hybrid last year and can share my experience with oil pressure problems. When the oil pressure warning first appeared, I immediately checked the engine oil level and noticed it was dark and slightly thick, indicating potential oil sludge formation. Since I had some experience working on hybrids, I knew this could be serious if left unchecked. The workshop diagnosed that I had exceeded the maintenance interval, which caused oil degradation and pressure issues. The fix involved: Complete oil system flush, New oil filter replacement, Fresh engine oil filling, Pressure sensor check Total cost was 165€ and resolved the warning light issue completely. The mechanic explained that hybrid engines can be particularly sensitive to old or contaminated oil. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Current mileage on your Jetta, When was your last oil change, Is the warning constant or intermittent, Have you noticed any unusual engine sounds, What color is your engine oil when you check the dipstick This information would help determine if your situation matches what I experienced or if you might be dealing with a different oil pressure related problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the oil pressure issue. My Jetta currently has 140403km and the last service was 3 weeks ago with a standard oil change, which makes this warning particularly concerning. The warning is intermittent, typically appearing when the engine is warm and at idle. The oil on the dipstick looks clean since the recent service, but I notice a slight ticking sound from the engine that wasnt there before. Would an oil additive help resolve the pressure issue, or should I be looking at potential oil pump problems? Given the recent oil change, I am wondering if there might be an oil leak or if the oil pressure sensor itself could be faulty. The engine oil level appears correct on the dipstick, but I am concerned about potential hidden issues.

Based on the symptoms you are describing, especially the ticking sound and intermittent warnings despite the recent oil change, this sounds like a different issue than what I experienced with my Golf. Since you had a proper oil change just 3 weeks ago, oil contamination is likely not the culprit here. The combination of: Intermittent oil pressure warnings, Ticking noise, Clean oil color, Correct oil level Points toward either a failing oil pressure sensor or oil pump problems. I would not recommend using oil additives in this case, as they could potentially mask underlying issues without fixing them. When my Golf had similar ticking sounds after an oil change, it turned out to be: 1. A faulty oil pressure sensor giving false readings 2. A partially blocked oil pickup tube affecting oil pressure The repair required: Oil pressure sensor replacement, Oil pump inspection, Oil pickup tube cleaning The total cost was around 390€ but solved both the warning light and ticking noise permanently. My suggestion would be to have these components checked, especially since you already know the oil quality is good from the recent service. The intermittent nature of the warning typically indicates a sensor or mechanical issue rather than an oil quality problem.

Thanks for the detailed responses. I wanted to update the thread with what turned out to be the actual problem with my Jetta. I took it to the shop yesterday and they diagnosed a failing oil pressure sensor combined with a partial oil leak from the timing chain cover gasket. The leak was causing slight pressure fluctuations, triggering the sensor which was already beginning to fail. The repair involved: Replacing the faulty oil pressure sensor, Fixing the oil leak at the timing chain cover, Cleaning residual oil from the engine Total cost was 450€ The ticking noise disappeared completely after the repair, and the oil pressure warning hasnt returned. For anyone searching with similar symptoms, definitely get the sensor checked even after a recent oil change, as oil contamination or oil sludge might not be the root cause. Really glad I didnt try using oil additives as suggested, since they wouldnt have fixed the actual mechanical issues. The shop confirmed this could have led to engine damage if left unaddressed.
