Jimny Diesel Stalls: Fuel Pump Failure Warning Signs

My Jimny diesel has been acting up lately, cant even get it started sometimes and when it does run, it stalls at idle. The engine runs really rough with terrible fuel economy. Check engine light is on and shows stored errors. Last mechanic visit was a disaster, so Im hesitant to go back. The symptoms point to fuel pump issues based on what I read. Anyone dealt with similar problems on their Jimny? Its a 2003 model with 198675km. Looking for advice on diagnosis and reliable mechanics who know their way around fuel system repairs.

Had similar symptoms on a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara diesel. The automotive diagnosis revealed a failing fuel pump combined with contaminated connectors. The engine stalling and rough running exactly matched your description. The fuel system needed a complete inspection. The main culprit was the fuel pump showing intermittent electrical faults due to corroded wiring connections. The pump itself was actually fine, but the electrical connection had deteriorated causing irregular fuel delivery. The repair involved cleaning the connector pins, replacing the wiring harness section leading to the fuel pump, and updating the ECU firmware. This resolved both the starting issues and engine stalling problems. The check engine light errors were directly related to the pump failure signals the ECU was receiving. This type of fuel system issue is quite serious since it can eventually lead to complete vehicle immobilization. The key is finding a shop that specializes in diesel fuel system diagnostics, as general mechanics often misdiagnose these symptoms as simple sensor failures. Based on your vehicle age and mileage, would strongly recommend having the entire fuel delivery system inspected, including the electrical connections and pump control module.

Thanks for sharing your Grand Vitara experience, very helpful since our fuel system issues sound identical. After reading your detailed explanation, I wonder, did you notice any other problems after the repair was completed? Also, could you share roughly what the repair cost was? Currently monitoring my Jimny closely since the auto repair and hoping the stalling wont return, but its good to know what to expect cost-wise if I need another fix.

The repair on my Grand Vitara was completely successful. Since having the fuel pump connection fixed, the car runs perfectly with no engine stalling or rough running issues. The automotive diagnosis was spot on, it really was just the electrical connection to the pump causing all those problems. Total cost came to 95€ for fixing the cable connection. Pretty reasonable considering the major headaches a faulty fuel pump can cause. The car performance returned to normal immediately after the repair. No more starting problems or check engine lights. Much cheaper than replacing the entire fuel pump unit, which is what some shops might suggest without proper diagnosis. The key was finding a technician who took time to inspect the electrical connections rather than just assuming the pump itself was bad. My advice would be to keep monitoring your Jimny, but if the initial repair addressed the connection issue like in my case, you shouldnt see those symptoms return. The fuel delivery should remain consistent now that the electrical fault is resolved. Just keep an eye on your fuel economy, its a good indicator that everything is working as it should. Mine returned to normal pretty much right after the fix.

Thanks for the advice. After reading about similar experiences, I finally took my Jimny to a specialist diesel mechanic. The car performance issues matched the electrical connection problem mentioned here. The mechanic found corroded wiring at the fuel pump connector, just like the Grand Vitara case. Did a thorough automotive diagnosis and cleaned all connections in the fuel system. Also replaced a section of damaged wiring harness near the pump. Total repair cost was 120€, bit more than expected but worth every cent. No more engine stalling or rough running. The check engine light cleared up and fuel economy is back to normal. Really glad I found this forum and got proper guidance instead of replacing the entire fuel pump. The key takeaway was finding the right mechanic who understood diesel fuel systems. They spotted the real issue quickly instead of guessing. My Jimny runs like new now, starts right up every time and idles perfectly.
