Thanks. I did a quick visual inspection and didn't see damage or loose connections. I don't have a detailed report. Was hoping for a simple fix. Do I really need a professional inspection?

Since you've done a visual inspection and the problem remains, and the error memory may be too technical to troubleshoot, I'd advise a professional assessment. There might be an intermittent fault or a more complex electrical issue affecting the switch circuit, hard to detect without specialized equipment. A workshop will have the right tools.

I took your advice and went to a technician. Turns out it was user error – I accidentally displaced the switch while cleaning. The technician recalibrated it, and it's fixed, at no cost. Thanks for the help!

That's frustrating. Electrical issues on newer vehicles aren't fun. The brake light switch is simple, but can cause this. Before assuming user error, check the switch for physical damage or loose connections. A visual inspection can help. Do you have a detailed diagnostic report beyond the generic error code? The specific code could help. The error memory is the stored list of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) the car records when a problem is detected.
