Jumpy AC Compressor Failure

Pressure was checked, it's fine. The code refers specifically to the compressor circuit being open/shorted. You think the control unit is the primary culprit, causing the compressor to fail?

Given the stored fault code and your symptoms, a defective AC control unit is highly probable, causing the refrigerant compressor failure. These units are known for internal failures that can damage the compressor. The control unit provides the necessary signals and power to the compressor. If the control unit is faulty, it may send incorrect signals, leading to compressor overload and subsequent failure. I'd advise a workshop visit for a proper diagnosis.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Garage confirmed the control unit diagnosis. Repair completed. Ouch, that hurt the wallet!

That's a common failure on those vans. The control unit often shorts out, taking the compressor with it. Did you check the refrigerant pressure before condemning the compressor? A low pressure switch fault can mimic those symptoms. Also, what error code is stored?
