Jumpy heavy steering vibration
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2005 Citroen Jumpy experiencing heavy steering and vibrations. The initial suspicion is a faulty steering angle sensor, especially since the power steering fluid level is normal and no recent alignment or suspension work has been done. It is advised to have the sensor checked and coded by a professional with specialized diagnostic tools, as incorrect coding could worsen the issue. The problem was resolved at a workshop for 195€.

Thanks for the reply! No ESP light, and no recent work on the alignment or suspension. Just started happening out of the blue. If it is the angle sensor, is that something I can fix myself, or is it best left to a professional? I'm not completely clueless, but I don't want to mess anything up worse.

Given the symptoms and the lack of recent work, a faulty or mis-coded steering angle sensor is a likely culprit. While technically you could replace the sensor yourself, coding it correctly requires specialized diagnostic equipment. Without that, the problem will persist, and you might introduce new issues. I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop with Citroen-specific diagnostic tools.

Okay, thanks for confirming my suspicions and for the advice. I'll book it into a workshop to get the steering angle sensor checked and coded. Ended up costing me 195€, all sorted now!

Heavy steering and vibrations could definitely point to the steering angle sensor, especially with electronic stability control systems. Has the ESP light come on at any point? Faulty coding of the sensor can definitely cause those symptoms. Has anything happened recently, like a wheel alignment or suspension work?
