Jumpy torque converter lock-up clutch issue

Hi, I'm having major issues with my 2003 Citroen Jumpy gasoline. The check engine light and transmission indicator light both came on. It's got 97479 km. The gearbox slips/shifts uncleanly and sometimes I hear grinding noises when it shifts. I had the error memory read and it points to a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. Has anyone experienced this?

Good day! I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are experiencing with your Citroen Jumpy. I had a similar issue, but on a 2014 Opel Insignia with a diesel engine. The symptoms match almost exactly! My mechanic told me then that it had something to do with the auto transmission converter playing up. Was the potential cause an automatic transmission converter fault in your case as well? This is quite a costly repair with potential follow-up damage, so I would advise you to get a second opinion from a transmission specialist.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the error code seems to point specifically to the torque converter lock-up clutch. Did your Opel have similar error codes? And do you know what the underlying issue was with your converter?

Yes, the error codes were very specific, similar to what you are describing. Ultimately, the workshop diagnosed the converter itself as defective. It seems the clutch inside had worn out prematurely. Considering the grinding noises you described, it might be a similar situation. I can only recommend that you visit a qualified workshop as soon as possible to avoid subsequent damage. Ignoring the grinding noises could damage the gearbox.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It sounds like I'm in for a similar repair. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed the diagnosis. The repair will cost 2120€ to replace the automatic transmission converter. I'm going ahead with it. At least I know what to expect now.
