JX35 Black Smoke & Stalling: Fuel System Problems?
Summary of the thread
The 2013 Infiniti JX is experiencing black smoke, stalling, rough running, poor gas mileage, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the fuel system, possibly the fuel pump control module. A similar case involved reprogramming the fuel pump control module, which resolved the problem. It is advised to read the error codes and consult a mechanic familiar with Infiniti vehicles to confirm the diagnosis and avoid further complications.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My JX has 10970 KM on the clock, and I just had the regular service done last month. No recent fuel system work though. I haven't pulled the error codes yet, but I'm planning to get that done tomorrow. Your fuel pump control module issue sounds pretty similar to what I'm experiencing. It's good to know it might not be something super expensive! Gonna check with my mechanic about this. Really appreciate your help!

Hey again! Just to follow up on my previous reply about my QX's fuel pump module issue. You know what? Since you mentioned having similar mileage and symptoms, I really think you might be dealing with the same problem I had. After I got my control module reprogrammed, I've put another 20,000 KM on my QX without any issues. Just a heads up though when I first noticed these symptoms, I kept driving for about a week before getting it checked out (not my smartest move ). It actually made things worse and started affecting my fuel injectors too. So I'd definitely recommend getting those error codes read ASAP and having it looked at by a mechanic who knows Infinitis. Quick question have you noticed if the problems get worse when the engine's warm or when it's cold? In my case, it was definitely worse after the engine warmed up, which was another clue pointing to the fuel pump control module. Keep us posted about those error codes when you get them!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! That's really helpful info about not waiting too long I definitely won't make that mistake! Now that you mention it, my problems do seem to get worse when the engine's warm, just like yours did. That's another sign pointing to the fuel pump control module, I guess. I've actually just booked an appointment with my mechanic for tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention your experience with the QX. It's such a relief to hear this might be a relatively simple fix. I was worried I'd be looking at a massive repair bill! I'll definitely update the thread once I get the error codes and hear what the mechanic says. Thanks again for all your help it's great to get advice from someone who's been through the same thing!

Hey there! I can relate to this fuel system issue. I had something similar with my 2011 Infiniti QX (pretty close to your JX). I'd say I have some experience working with cars, but I'm no expert. Last year, my QX started acting up with similar symptoms black smoke, rough running, and stalling. Took it to my trusted workshop, and it turned out to be messed up software values in the fuel pump system. The fix was pretty straightforward they reprogrammed the fuel pump control module, cost me 45 Euro, and the problem was solved. What's your mileage, and have you had any recent work done on the fuel system? Also, are you getting any specific error codes? This info would help me share more relevant details about my experience. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more info.
