Kadjar Engine Issues Exhaust Temperature Sensor

I'm experiencing some engine issues with my 2019 Renault Kadjar, gasoline engine, at 216353 km. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed reduced engine power and higher fuel consumption. I suspect a faulty exhaust temperature sensor, possibly due to a leak in the exhaust system. Has anyone else encountered similar problems?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Renault Kadjar with a gasoline engine experienced reduced power, higher fuel consumption, and a check engine light, suspected to be due to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor and a possible exhaust system leak. The issue was confirmed by a workshop, identifying a small leak in the exhaust manifold causing incorrect sensor readings. Replacing the sensor and fixing the leak resolved the problem, restoring the car's performance.

I had similar symptoms in my Kadjar. Did you check for temperature fluctuation, especially after cold starts? If the readings from the exhaust temperature sensor are erratic, that's a strong indicator. What's the freeze frame data from the OBD-II scanner?

I did notice some unusual temperature readings. The exhaust temperature seems to fluctuate quite a bit. The OBD-II scanner is showing code P0420, catalyst system efficiency below threshold. Are you suggesting the exhaust temperature sensor might be triggering that code indirectly?

Precisely. The P0420 can be a consequence of incorrect exhaust temperature readings affecting engine management. While it could be the catalytic converter itself, a faulty sensor upstream can definitely cause skewed data. I would suggest having the exhaust system pressure tested and the sensor thoroughly checked by a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a trusted workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the exhaust temperature sensor. They found a small leak in the exhaust manifold that was causing incorrect readings. Sensor replacement and fixing the leak cost me 265€. The car runs smoothly now!
