Kadjar Gear Shift Issues

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2018 Renault Kadjar diesel. It's got about 43,100 km on the clock. The gear shift indicator on the dash is playing up big time. I can't seem to engage the gears properly sometimes, the automatic transmission feels all over the place, slipping and shifting roughly. I'm even hearing some grinding noises when it tries to shift! The display in the speedometer where it shows the gear selection is just blank. I've plugged it into a diagnostic tool and it's throwing up an error related to the gear selection. Any ideas? I'm suspecting a faulty control unit.

I had a similar issue with my Kadjar! Although the symptoms you're describing sound pretty severe, the blank gear selection display definitely rings a bell. Was there any other unusual behavior you observed before this started happening?

Thanks for the reply! Hmm, nothing obviously unusual before it started. Just the odd slightly jerky shift maybe, but I thought that was normal. Did yours have the same grinding noises and shifting problems?

Okay, so the jerky shifts might have been a clue. Yes, my Kadjar eventually developed similar shifting issues – unclean shifts, and once or twice it even slipped quite badly. The grinding noise is definitely not good. Based on my experience and what the dealer eventually told me, it does sound like a control unit issue that's gone beyond just the display. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd strongly recommend getting it to a workshop ASAP. Continuing to drive it could cause further damage to the gearbox itself. They quoted me around 1000€ for the repair of the control unit.

Thanks so much for the detailed info! Sounds like I'm facing the same problem. I will take it to the workshop.
