Kadjar transfer case defective gears
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Renault Kadjar with a diesel engine and 61,610 km mileage is experiencing gearbox slipping and unclean shifting, suspected to be due to transfer case oil wear or defective gears. A similar issue was resolved by checking the transfer fluid level, which can indicate leaks or contamination. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosed defective gears in the transfer case, confirming the initial suspicion.

Thanks for the insight. No, I haven't checked the transfer fluid level yet, where exactly is it located? And is it easy to check?

On my Kadjar, it was a pain to get to, and without the right tools, almost impossible to check properly. Considering your symptoms and my experience, plus the mileage, it might be mechanical wear of the gears inside the transfer case itself. Honestly, best to have a workshop take a look. They'll diagnose it properly.

Thanks a lot! Took your advice and brought it to a shop. Turns out it was exactly as you suspected, defective gears in the transfer case. Repair cost was 330€ Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I've got a Kadjar as well, and had similar symptoms not too long ago. Initially I thought it might be 'just' the gear oil needing a change, but the symptoms persisted. Have you checked the transfer fluid level? That could give you a clue if it's leaking or heavily contaminated.
