Kalos Transmission Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Chevrolet Kalos is experiencing transmission issues, including an engine warning light and poor shifting, linked to a transmission oil temperature sensor fault. The gearbox is in emergency mode, slipping, and grinding, potentially due to low transmission fluid levels. Checking and topping off the transmission fluid is suggested, as low levels can affect sensor readings and cause these symptoms. Repair involves addressing any leaks, replacing the sensor, and ensuring proper fluid levels.

Thanks. Can you tell me how you diagnosed the low fluid issue, and whether you had the same sensor error code?

I didn’t have the error code read initially, but the rough shifting was the first clue. I checked the transmission fluid level, and it was way lower than it should have been. After topping it off the shifting improved somewhat, but the underlying issue remained. A workshop confirmed the sensor issue and traced the root cause back to the low oil level messing with the sensor readings. They replaced the sensor after fixing the leak.

I took the car to my local workshop. They confirmed a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, made worse by low gearbox oil level. The repair cost 365€.

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my Kalos. The slipping and grinding were awful. Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Low fluid was the culprit for me. If it's low, check for leaks too – could be a seal gone bad.
