Kangoo AC Failure

My 2003 Renault Kangoo with a gasoline engine (121157 km) has an AC problem. It doesn't cool or switch on, a warning light is on, and there's an error stored. I suspect the AC control unit. Has anyone else had this?

Hey, I drive a Kangoo too and your issue sounds awfully familiar to what happened to me last summer. The AC just quit, and that little light on the dash was mocking me. Did you check for any refrigerant leaks? Sometimes a small leak will cause the compressor to shut down as a safety measure.

Thanks. I haven't checked for leaks, but thought the compressor would still engage, even with a minor one. Could a leak completely disable it? Did you hear any unusual noises from the AC compressor before it failed?

Yeah, mine cut out completely. No noise, no nothing. Just warm air blowing. I'm no expert, but I think the system is designed to protect the compressor from running dry if the refrigerant gets too low. Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it too much myself. I took mine straight to the workshop, and they sorted it out.

Thanks for sharing. I'm taking it to a workshop for diagnosis and repair, given the complexity. The estimate is about 980€, which seems reasonable. I appreciate the help.
