Kangoo Camshaft Sensor Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2009 Renault Kangoo with a gasoline engine. At around 101806 km, it's hard to start, stalls when idling, and the check engine light is on. Diagnostics point to a bad camshaft sensor, maybe a faulty encoder wheel. Does that sound right, and what should I check before getting it fixed?

That sounds very familiar! I drive a Kangoo too, a slightly older one. I had the same issues a while back – poor starting, stalling, and the check engine light. It was the camshaft sensor, like your diagnostic says. Before you replace it, have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor? A loose connection can cause the same problems and is a much cheaper fix.

Thanks for the tip. Can you tell me which connections to check, and is there a way to test the sensor before replacing it? I know a bit about engines but want to be sure before buying a new sensor.

I checked the connector itself, made sure it was secure and not corroded. I didn't test the sensor with a multimeter, but you could. Honestly, with your symptoms and the code, the sensor is probably failing. I'd see a workshop; they can confirm and replace it. Mine cost 695€. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I went to a workshop, and they agreed it was a bad camshaft sensor and needed replacing. It's fixed now and running great. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
