Kangoo Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Renault Kangoo with a gasoline engine is experiencing hard starting, stalling when idling, and an illuminated check engine light at around 101,806 km. Diagnostics suggest a faulty camshaft sensor or possibly a faulty encoder wheel. Before replacing the sensor, it is recommended to check the wiring and connections for any loose or corroded parts, as these can cause similar issues. Ultimately, the camshaft sensor was confirmed to be faulty and was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the tip. Can you tell me which connections to check, and is there a way to test the sensor before replacing it? I know a bit about engines but want to be sure before buying a new sensor.

I checked the connector itself, made sure it was secure and not corroded. I didn't test the sensor with a multimeter, but you could. Honestly, with your symptoms and the code, the sensor is probably failing. I'd see a workshop; they can confirm and replace it. Mine cost 695€. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I went to a workshop, and they agreed it was a bad camshaft sensor and needed replacing. It's fixed now and running great. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

That sounds very familiar! I drive a Kangoo too, a slightly older one. I had the same issues a while back – poor starting, stalling, and the check engine light. It was the camshaft sensor, like your diagnostic says. Before you replace it, have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor? A loose connection can cause the same problems and is a much cheaper fix.
