Kangoo diesel engine running too rich

I have a problem with my 2007 Renault Kangoo diesel, with 53851 km. For some time now, I've noticed that the engine is running too rich. The symptoms are reduced engine power, the check engine light comes on every now and then, rough engine running, high fuel consumption and jerking when accelerating. I suspect a defective injection valve or injector. Has anyone had a similar problem and can give me some advice?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Renault Kangoo diesel engine was experiencing issues such as reduced power, intermittent check engine light, rough running, high fuel consumption, and jerking during acceleration, indicating it was running too rich. The suspected cause was a defective injection valve or injector. After consulting with another Kangoo owner who had similar issues, it was advised to check the fuel injectors. Upon inspection, a defective injector was found and replaced, resolving the problem and restoring smooth engine performance.

I also drive a Kangoo with a diesel engine and had similar problems. Reduced engine power, increased fuel consumption... It was like the car was constantly running with the handbrake on. Have you checked the spark plugs or the catalytic converter? These can also cause similar symptoms.

Thank you for your quick reply! I haven't checked the spark plugs or catalytic converter yet, but I will do so as soon as possible. Did you also have the check engine light on? And did the engine jerk when accelerating? How did you solve the problem?

Yes, the check engine light also came on occasionally. And the jerking when accelerating was definitely there, especially at lower speeds. I went to the workshop. They checked the fuel injectors and found one was defective. After replacing it, everything ran smoothly again. I would recommend you to do the same. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you very much for your help! I took your advice and took the car to the workshop. I had the fuel injectors checked. It turned out that one of them was indeed defective. After replacing it, the engine ran smoothly again. The repair cost 515€. The car runs like new again!
