Kangoo diesel hard starting and rough idle
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Renault Kangoo diesel is experiencing hard starting, increased fuel consumption, reduced engine power, rough idling, and occasional stalling. These issues, along with the presence of black smoke, suggest a potential problem with the fuel injection system, possibly a dirty or defective fuel injector nozzle. A similar case was resolved by replacing the injector nozzle, which improved performance and resolved the symptoms. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to confirm the diagnosis and address the issue.

Interesting! Black smoke, yes I did noticed it recently. What was the root cause in your case? Was it expensive to fix?

Yeah, the black smoke is a classic sign. For me, it turned out to be a defective fuel injector nozzle. The mechanic said it was probably just dirty and not spraying fuel properly. Ultimately, they recommended replacing it. It wasn't cheap – about 515€ – but it completely solved the problem. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but I would definitely bring it to a workshop!

Thanks a lot for the information! It's a relief to have an idea of what's going on. I'll take it to the workshop as soon as possible and mention the injection nozzle. Hopefully, it will solve my issues. Thanks again!

Hi! Your symptoms sound very familiar. I have a Kangoo diesel as well, and I had almost the exact same issues a while back. Hard starting, poor performance, rough idle... the whole nine yards! Did you notice any black smoke or a strange smell from the exhaust?
