Kangoo engine control unit communication error

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2013 Renault Kangoo diesel is throwing a fit. I'm getting an engine control unit communication error. The check engine light is on, and the engine's overheating like crazy. I even found coolant under the van after parking, looks like excessive pressure. I'm leaning towards a dodgy cable or plug connection but it's driving me nuts. It has 180718 km. Any ideas?

Sounds rough. I had something similar with my Kangoo. Was it consistently happening, or just intermittently?

It's pretty intermittent, yeah. Sometimes it's fine for a day or two, then bam, it's back. When it happens, the overheating is almost immediate. Any idea what the damage was?

Yeah, mine was intermittent too. It ended up being a fault that the workshop was able to easily diagnose with the data link connector, the control unit had a communication fault. I ended up just taking it to the shop to sort out.
