Kangoo Oxygen Sensor Heater Failure

I've got a 2018 Renault Kangoo, gasoline engine, that's throwing me for a loop. Check engine light's on, and the code reader says it's an oxygen sensor heater failure. Mileage is sitting at 116409 km. I've noticed the fuel consumption creeping up too. I had a quick look and can't see any obvious damage, so thought I'd check if anyone else has had this issue.

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a faulty oxygen sensor heater element. Begin by methodically inspecting the wiring and plug connector associated with the affected sensor. A defective connection, such as corrosion or a loose terminal, is a plausible cause. Also, you can test the heater element resistance with a multimeter, and compare the value with the expected one.

Thanks for the quick reply. Where exactly on the sensor would I test the resistance? Also, could a dodgy earth connection somewhere else on the vehicle cause this? I know modern cars can throw up weird codes sometimes.

You should consult the vehicle-specific wiring diagram, but typically the heater element pins are distinct from the sensor signal pins. Regarding your query about a faulty earth, while theoretically possible, it's less likely to directly manifest solely as an oxygen sensor heater fault. Given the diagnostic trouble code and symptoms, I still advise a focused inspection on the sensor's wiring, plug connector, and the heater element itself. If everything checks out, consider taking it to a workshop to get it sorted.

Appreciate the advice. Gave the wiring a good check and clean, but no joy. Bit the bullet and took it to the local shop. Turns out it was a corroded connector, like you said. 95€ all in. Thanks again for the help!
