Kangoo Tire Pressure ABS and Steering Issues

The tire seems to be losing air at a moderate rate; it goes from the recommended pressure to noticeably low within a few days. I haven't found any obvious punctures. Could a defective valve stem cause these issues and trigger the tire monitoring system?

Yes, absolutely! A defective valve stem is a very likely cause. It could be leaking air slowly, explaining the gradual loss of pressure and the tire pressure warning. Because of the low pressure, the ABS light comes on, and steering becomes heavy. It's hard to be sure without looking at it, but I would take it to a workshop to have the tire and valve stem inspected. They can check for leaks you might have missed and replace the valve if needed. It's best not to drive too much with a suspected leak, for safety reasons.

Thanks for the helpful advice! I took the Kangoo to a local garage, and they confirmed that the valve in the tire was defective, causing a slow air leak, which triggered the tire monitoring system. They replaced the valve, and after properly inflating the tire, the ABS warning light disappeared, and the steering feels normal again. The final repair bill came to 280€.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. A flat tire could be causing those problems. A significantly low tire can mess with the ABS because the wheel speed sensor will detect a difference in rotation. This can trigger the ABS light. A flat tire increases rolling resistance, making it harder to turn the wheel, especially if your power steering relies on the engine. Is the tire losing air quickly, or is it more of a slow leak? Have you checked for punctures, like a nail or screw?
