Kangoo Transmission Control Unit Failure

I'm having a nightmare with my 2020 Renault Kangoo diesel. It's got about 200,006 km on the clock, and the gearbox is completely borked. The paddle shifters are doing absolutely nothing, the gears are slipping like crazy, and it sounds like I'm grinding metal every time it tries to shift. Plus, it feels like there's a huge delay when I try to use the paddles. The computer threw it into emergency mode, and I pulled the codes – looks like a transmission control unit defective. Anyone else seen anything like this? I'm guessing it's gonna be the car computer needing a replacement, which I'm dreading the cost of.

Oh man, that sounds rough! I had a similar problem with my old Vauxhall Astra. Although it wasn't the paddle shifters, I experienced the same slipping and emergency mode. Was there any warning before it went into emergency mode?

Thanks for the reply! No real warning. Just started acting up with the slipping, then BANG – emergency mode. With your Astra, what exactly was the fix and what did that end up costing you? Was it also the transmission control?

Yes, after some head-scratching from my mechanic, it turned out to be a faulty transmission control unit. Considering the symptoms you're describing and the error code you're getting, it does sound extremely similar. I would definitely recommend taking it to a reputable workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I took it to my local shop, and they confirmed the transmission control unit is toast. Quoted me about 1000€ for the replacement and labor. Ouch! At least I know what's up now thanks to your help.
