Kia Pride 2000 Shows Unexpected Gear Selection Display Issues and Warning Light

Hey everyone, I'm driving a 2000 Kia Pride, gas engine, with a bit over 137k on the odometer. Lately, the gear selection display has gotten all screwy and there's a warning light on my speedometer. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the clutch pedal switch, possibly malfunctioning. Last time I dealt with a mechanic, it wasn't a great experience, so I'm trying to gather some info before going in again. Anyone had a similar issue with their ride? What was your experience like with your mechanic when you had it fixed? Appreciate any insight you all can provide!

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Kia Pride is experiencing issues with the gear selection display and a warning light on the speedometer. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning clutch pedal switch, possibly due to a faulty cable connection. A similar issue was resolved by addressing the cable connection, which required some disassembly but ultimately fixed the problem. The suggested solution is to have a mechanic inspect and repair the clutch switch connection, which should resolve the display and warning light issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey! I feel your pain! I had a similar issue with my 2003 Kia Spectra. At first, the problem seemed like an elusive gremlin with unusual warning lights and unpredictable gear selecting. After narrowing it down, it turned out to be a crappy cable connection for my clutch switch too. I had to take it to my guy down at the garage. It wasn't a straight forward process. The bugger had to remove a fair amount of stuff to access it, including the battery and another few bits and pieces. It seemed pretty serious because of the location and the amount of fuss needed to get it sorted out. That being said, once it was addressed, it resolved all the weird symptoms. Just prepare yourself for a bit of downtime while they go to work on it. Once it's sorted, the change is night and day. I hope this helps and good luck with it!

Hey, thanks for the heads up! It sounds like your Kia Spectra had almost an identical issue. Do you remember ballpark how much it cost you for the fixes? Also, have you noticed any other similar issues since it got sorted out? I'm just trying to get a rough idea of what to expect financially and if there is anything else to look out for. Cheers!

Hey there! Yeah, the repair wasn't exactly pocket change, but it wasn't through the roof either. The charge for mending the defective cable connection to the clutch switch was around 95.00 €. So, do be prepared for a little investment. Regarding your query about any recurring issues, I'm happy to report that the issue with the clutch pedal switch was completely dealt with by the mechanic. No weird gear selections, no warning lights. It's been smooth sailing since the fix. Like I said earlier, once it's sorted out, it's a total game changer. Hope that helps with your decision. Cheers!

I can't thank you enough for this valuable information. It's a huge relief to have an idea of what's going on! To hear that the repair completely eliminated the issue gives me hope. I'll brace myself for the little dent in my wallet, but if it changes the game like you've mentioned, it's worth every penny. Going to reach out to the mechanic now that I'm better informed, let's hope for a smoother ride! As they say, forewarned is forearmed. Cheers! You've truly been a lifesaver.
