Koleos Active Hood Fault

I've got a 2013 Renault Koleos with a diesel engine and I'm getting an "Active hood fault" message on the dash. The airbag warning light is also on. I ran a diagnostic and it shows an error related to the active hood system, and it seems like the spring actuators have been triggered. Has anyone experienced something similar? Mileage is at 83816 km. Could it be a sensor issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Renault Koleos owner reported an "Active hood fault" message and an airbag warning light on the dashboard, suspecting a sensor issue. A fellow owner suggested the problem might be due to a faulty acceleration (crash) sensor, which can trigger these warnings. It was advised to seek professional help due to the safety implications. The issue was confirmed to be a defective acceleration sensor, which was repaired at a workshop, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I own a Koleos myself. From your description, this sounds familiar. If I remember correctly, it could be related to the acceleration sensor responsible for collision detection. These sensors can sometimes become faulty, triggering the active hood and airbag warnings. However, I am not entirely certain if it's the same sensor, but it could be. Is there any further information on the error code?

Thanks for the quick reply! You mentioned acceleration sensor. Is this the same as the crash sensor? Is it difficult to locate and test, or is it something I should leave to a professional?

Yes, it is the same as a crash sensor. Considering the safety implications of the airbag and active hood systems, and the potential for incorrect diagnosis leading to further complications, I would advise against attempting a repair yourself. A workshop will be able to properly diagnose and rectify the issue. My issue was similar and was resolved at the workshop. I advise that you seek a professional.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local workshop and it turned out to be a defective acceleration sensor, just as you suspected. The repair cost me 315€. Everything is working fine now.
