Koleos air intake leak

My 2018 Renault Koleos with a gasoline engine is giving me headaches! I've got a serious air intake leak somewhere. The mileage is at 171733 km. The fuel consumption has gone through the roof, the check engine light is on, and there's this crazy loud hissing sound whenever I try to accelerate. I'm pretty sure it's a leak in the intake hose, but I've checked around the throttle body and intake manifold, and nothing is obvious. Has anyone experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Renault Koleos with a gasoline engine is experiencing an air intake leak, leading to increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing noise during acceleration. The suspected cause is a leak in the intake hose, though initial inspections around the throttle body and intake manifold revealed nothing obvious. A suggestion was made to perform a leak detection test using a suitable spray to pinpoint the leak. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be the intake hose, which was repaired at a workshop, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Opel Insignia, also a gasoline engine. Same symptoms: increased fuel consumption and hissing noise. Did you perform a leak detection test, perhaps using some suitable spray around the vacuum hoses? It might help pinpoint the exact location of the leak before replacing parts.

Thanks a lot for your insight! I did try a visual inspection of the hoses, but I haven't used any leak detection spray yet. Could you tell me more about where exactly you found the leak in your Insignia? Was it near the intake manifold or somewhere else?

In my case, the leak was located in a small, corrugated vacuum hose connected to the intake manifold, on the back side of the engine; difficult to spot without proper equipment. I suggest that you should take your Koleos to a workshop. They will identify and repair that leak.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the advice! Took it to a shop. Turns out it WAS the intake hose, just as I suspected. The final damage was 100€, which I’m quite happy to pay. Runs like a dream now!
