Koleos automatic transmission issues

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't actually changed the transmission oil since I bought the car a few years ago. How involved is checking the oil myself? Is it something I can do at home, or should I take it to a shop?

Okay, not changing the oil in years is likely the source of your Koleos issues. While technically you can check the level yourself, some Renault models make it difficult without the right tools. Plus, assessing the condition of the oil really requires an expert eye. Given the 'emergency mode' issue, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a reputable shop. They can properly diagnose if it's just the oil or if something else has been damaged by the oil issue. I once ignored similar symptoms in my old Megane, and the repair ended up costing way more because I waited!

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the oil was completely worn out, and the undervoltage in the vehicle was the root cause. An oil replacement seems to have solved the shifting problems, and the final bill was 240€. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a real headache! Those symptoms could point to a few things, but given the age and mileage, the first thing that jumps to my mind is the condition of your transmission oil. When was the last time you had it changed? Old or degraded oil can seriously mess with the transmission's performance, leading to all sorts of shifting problems. It might be worth checking the oil level and condition first – is it dark, sludgy, or does it smell burnt?
