Koleos Engine Knocking

Thanks for the reply! I've only ever used regular fuel. How would I know if it's definitely deposits? And if it is, what can I do about it?

Well, without pulling the cylinder heads, it's tough to say for sure. A compression test might give you a clue, but honestly, those symptoms – knocking, reduced power, smoke – and the error code, all point towards needing a proper diagnosis. Deposits can cause pre-ignition, which is super hard on the engine. At this point, I'd suggest finding a trusted workshop; they will be able to diagnose the problem and give you a quote. It could cost around 425€ though.

Thanks again for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – it was deposits in the combustion chamber causing pre-ignition! They cleaned it all out, and it's running like new again.

Sounds like it could be detonation, which is basically uncontrolled combustion. Could be a few things causing it – bad fuel, maybe deposits in the combustion chamber causing hot spots. Think of it like popcorn kernels heating unevenly. Have you tried running a higher octane fuel to see if that makes a difference? Does it happen all the time, or just under load?
