Koleos engine power loss

I've got a 2016 Renault Koleos with a gasoline engine and I'm experiencing some issues. Engine power feels reduced, and the check engine light is on. When I accelerate, I'm noticing quite a bit of smoke and the engine runs rough. Plus, my fuel consumption has definitely gone up. There's also some jerking and a loud hissing sound when I try to speed up. Any ideas? Thinking it could be something with vehicle emissions, maybe a vacuum leak?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Renault Koleos is experiencing engine power loss, rough running, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light, accompanied by smoke and a hissing sound during acceleration. The issues suggest potential problems with vehicle emissions, possibly a vacuum leak or a faulty EGR valve. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the EGR valve was defective and needed replacement, resolving the issues.

Hey there, that sounds frustrating! I had similar problems with my old Volvo (different engine, though). Reduced power, rough running, and the check engine light were all present. Did you check the EGR valve? That was the culprit for me. Is the recirculation working properly?

EGR valve, huh? I hadn't considered that specifically. How did you figure out it was the EGR valve? What kind of emissions test did you perform, or what did you look for?

Well, honestly, I'm no expert, I just searched the symptoms and EGR valve kept popping up. I didn't do any advanced tests myself. The hissing sound could be a vacuum leak somewhere, but the EGR valve is definitely worth checking out. Considering all the symptoms you're describing, especially the smoke, it seems like it's not working right. I'd suggest getting it looked at by a workshop. Could save you a lot of headache.

Thanks for the tip! I really appreciate it. Took it to the shop and you were spot on – the EGR valve was indeed defective and jammed. Ended up costing me 355€ to get it replaced, but the car runs like new again.
