Koleos Gear Shift Indicator Failure

I have a 2017 Renault Koleos with a gasoline engine and almost 205,000 km. The gear shift indicator stopped working, causing other problems. It's nearly impossible to engage gears sometimes. The automatic transmission shifts uncleanly, slipping occasionally with grinding noises. The gear selection display on the speedometer is blank, and the computer throws an error. A defective control unit is the likely culprit. Has anyone else had similar issues with their Koleos? Sounds like an expensive repair – potentially around 1000€.

Hey, that sounds rough! I've had something similar happen with my Koleos. Is the instrument panel also acting up, or just the gear indicator? It could point to a broader electronic issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! The rest of the instrument panel seems to be working fine. All the other displays – speed, fuel level, etc. – are normal. It's just the gear selection indicator that's gone dark. Did you have the same symptoms, like the transmission problems and error codes?

Yep, pretty much the same. Intermittent gear selection display, followed by the transmission acting weird. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop; it does indeed sound like a control unit problem.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! Knowing that someone else had the same issue and that it likely points to the control unit is helpful. I’ll book it into the workshop.
