Koleos Preheating Lamp Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Renault Koleos with a diesel engine had a persistent issue where the preheating lamp wouldn't switch off, accompanied by the check engine light and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause was a defective preheating control unit. After scanning for error codes and further inspection, it was confirmed that the issue was due to a faulty connection to the preheating control unit. Repairing this connection resolved the problem, and the vehicle is now running smoothly.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't checked the glow plugs individually yet, but I did scan for error codes. It points towards the preheating control unit. Any idea what the likely cause is?

Yep, that's what happened with mine. Turned out to be a dodgy cable or plug connection to the preheating control unit. I'd suggest having a mechanic take a look, but be prepared to potentially replace the module. It's part of the ignition system. I would go to the workshop to be sure about the problem.

Thanks a lot for the insight! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was a defective connection to the preheating control unit. The repair cost me 95€, and now it's running smoothly again.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Koleos. Is the engine cranking okay? Have you checked the glow plugs themselves? A faulty plug can sometimes trigger the same symptoms. Also, have you had the car scanned for error codes? That's usually the first step to pinpoint the culprit. Could be an electrical fault.
