Koleos transfer case defective gears

Alright gurus, need some input. My 2009 Renault Koleos (gasoline engine, 66535 km on the clock) is showing signs of transfer case oil wear. Gearbox is slipping a bit, shifts aren't as clean as they used to be. I've checked for obvious oil leakage but found none. Could defective gears inside the transfer case be the culprit? I'm thinking mechanical wear is the prime suspect.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Koleos. How's the transfer fluid looking? Any unusual color or metal shavings when you checked the level?

Good point! I'll check the transfer fluid more closely for metal shavings. But even if I find some, does that automatically confirm defective gears? Or could it be something less drastic, like just a need for an oil change?

Metal shavings are never a good sign. Oil change might help temporarily, but if the gears are already worn, it's just delaying the inevitable. I'd advise getting it checked out at a workshop to confirm the state of the gears.

Appreciate the insight! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Defective gears in the transfer case. Ended up costing me 330€ for the repair. Thanks for the help!
