Kona Brake Pedal Feedback
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Hyundai Kona diesel owner experienced strange brake pedal feedback and discovered low brake fluid. This issue often indicates problems within the braking system, such as worn brake pads or rotors, which can cause the fluid level to drop. It was suggested to inspect the brake pads, rotors, and check for fluid leaks. Ultimately, the owner found the front brakes were completely worn and resolved the issue by replacing the pads and rotors and performing a brake fluid flush.

I haven't checked the pads and rotors myself and wouldn't know what to look for. Is there a simple way to tell if they're worn just by looking? Where exactly is the master cylinder? Is it easy to spot?

Visually inspecting brake pads can be tricky for a novice. You're looking for the thickness of the pad material – if it's thin, it's likely worn. The master cylinder is usually mounted on the firewall, inside the engine bay, near the brake booster; it has lines running to it. Based on your description and lack of experience, it's advisable to get a brake inspection at a trusted workshop. A professional can accurately assess the condition of your brakes and identify any leaks.

You were spot on! The front brakes were completely worn. New pads and rotors, plus a brake fluid flush, and the bill came to 480€. Thanks so much for the help! Definitely needed that push to get it checked out.

Low brake fluid and strange pedal feel often point to issues within the braking system. Have you inspected your brake pads and rotors recently? Worn brakes will cause the fluid level in the reservoir to drop. Have you noticed any fluid leaks near the wheels or under the master cylinder?
