Kona engine stalling

My 2020 Hyundai Kona with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The check engine light is on, and it's stalling at idle constantly! Plus, the engine feels like it's lost a lot of its power. I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues with rough idling? I'm also noticing fuel efficiency is down.

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Hyundai Kona is experiencing engine stalling, a check engine light, power loss, and decreased fuel efficiency. The issues are suspected to be related to the fuel system, possibly involving the fuel regulator or high-pressure pump. After a professional diagnosis, it was confirmed that the fuel volume regulator was defective, likely due to the pump, and repairs resolved the problem.

That sounds frustrating! Have you noticed any changes in fuel economy recently, aside from the general drop you're seeing with the power loss? When was the last time you had your fuel injection system checked out? It almost sounds like a fuel issue, like maybe something is up with the fuel regulator, but without more info, I'm not sure.

Fuel economy has been worse, definitely. So you think it's the fuel regulator? Could a defective high pressure pump cause this or something similar? And if it IS the fuel regulator, is that usually a costly fix? Trying to brace myself here…

A defective high pressure pump is quite plausible, given the symptoms. The check engine light, stalling, and reduced power are definitely pointing in that direction. Replacing fuel system components can be a bit pricey, unfortunately. I would suggest that you get it to a shop for a proper diagnosis though, just to be certain before you spend any money.

Thanks for the input! Turns out, you were right on the money with the fuel pump. Took it to the shop, and they confirmed the fuel volume regulator was defective, likely due to the pump. 1510€ later, it's running like new again... ouch!
