Kona Hybrid Power Loss Whistling Noise

I'm having a weird issue with my 2020 Hyundai Kona Hybrid (167509 km). The check engine light is on, and the car feels like it's lost power. Engine response is terrible, and I'm hearing a loud hissing when I accelerate. Sometimes, it even stalls at idle. My fuel consumption has gone up! Could it be a boost pressure actuator fault or the electrical bypass valve? Anyone else experienced something like this?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Hyundai Kona Hybrid is experiencing power loss, a check engine light, and a loud hissing noise during acceleration, leading to increased fuel consumption and occasional stalling. The issue is suspected to be related to a boost pressure actuator fault or an electrical bypass valve problem. After consulting with others who had similar experiences, it was confirmed that the problem was indeed a defective electrical bypass valve, which was resolved at a workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I have a Kona too, and I had similar issues a while back: check engine light, loss of power, the works. Was the whistling really noticeable, even with the windows up? For me, it was the turbocharger, or at least something connected to the turbo system. I wonder if the pressure sensor is messed up?

The whistling is definitely noticeable, even with the windows up! It's driving me crazy. You said it was the turbocharger for you? Was it the whole turbo unit, or just some part of it? And did you also experience the engine stalling? Did they check the boost pressure itself?

Yeah, the whistling was super loud! No, they didn't replace the whole turbo, thank goodness. I honestly can't remember exactly what they replaced (definitely wasn't cheap!), but I think it was the turbo actuator. And no, my engine never stalled completely. Honestly, I'd take it to a workshop and have them run a proper diagnostic. They can check the boost pressure and see if the actuator is faulty. It's better to be safe than sorry with these things.

Thanks a lot for the info! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was a defective electrical bypass valve, causing a boost pressure actuator fault! Cost me around 250€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the help!
