Kuga EGR Valve Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Ford Kuga with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced engine power, rough running, excessive smoke, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light, likely due to a faulty EGR valve. The symptoms worsen when the engine is cold, accompanied by a loud hissing sound. Cleaning the EGR valve might not be sufficient if it's too damaged, so replacement is recommended. A workshop can diagnose and replace the EGR valve, typically costing around 350€.

Yes, definitely worse when it's cold. Takes ages to get going and the hissing sound is really noticeable then. Once it warms a bit it's slightly better, but the power is still way down and the check engine light is still on. What was the fix for yours?

Yep, mine was exactly the same. Sounds like EGR for sure. I tried cleaning it, but it was too far gone, so had to replace the whole unit. Honestly, save yourself the hassle and take it to a decent workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and get it sorted. Mine cost about 350€ to have replaced.

Sounds like the EGR valve needs replacing. I booked it in to the workshop and they confirmed it. Total cost 355€. At least I know what's wrong now!

That sounds awful familiar. I had very similar issues with my Kuga! I didn't see quite as much smoke, but the power loss and rough running were definitely there. Did you notice any difference when the engine was cold versus warmed up?
