Kuga multifunction steering wheel failure

Hi, I have a 2021 Ford Kuga Hybrid with 81316 km. Recently, the multifunction steering wheel stopped working. The display says operation of the multifunction steering wheel is no longer possible, and an error is stored in the error memory. Could a defective cable connection in the steering wheel really be the cause? Anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

The multifunction steering wheel of a 2021 Ford Kuga Hybrid stopped working, displaying an error message. A defective cable connection in the steering wheel was suspected as the cause. It was advised to have a professional diagnose the issue due to the complexity and potential risks involved. The problem was confirmed to be a defective cable connection, and after repair, the steering wheel functions were restored.

Sounds like a connectivity problem, alright. The steering wheel controls rely on a control module and various sensors. When they go haywire, you get those errors. A defective cable is a likely culprit given the symptoms. Have you had any vehicle diagnostics done? It could also be a software glitch, but a cable issue is more probable, especially with steering controls.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't done vehicle diagnostics yet. Just wanted to get a feel if this is a common Kuga issue before I potentially waste money on an expensive diagnosis. Is there any easy way to check the cable connection myself, or is that something best left to a professional?

I understand your reluctance to spend money unnecessarily, believe me! While there might be a way to visually inspect the cable, messing with steering wheel wiring, especially in a hybrid, can be risky because of the airbags and other systems. If you're not experienced with automotive electrics, it's really best left to a workshop. They can properly diagnose it and confirm the cable issue before replacing anything. For 95€, you can be sure it's fixed properly.

Thanks again for your help. I took it to the workshop, and you were right, it was indeed a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. Repair cost was 95€. Everything is working fine again now!
