Bubbles under the gel pad? How did you specifically check for that, and did you attempt any DIY fixes before taking it to a professional?

I just carefully inspected the windshield from the outside, looking closely at the area where the sensor sits. You should be able to spot them if they're there. I wouldn't recommend any DIY fixes since it involves sensitive electronics. It's best to get it sorted at a workshop, so they can calibrate the sensor after replacing or fixing the gel pad.

I checked the sensor and bubbles were indeed the root cause. I took it to my repair shop, they replaced the gel pad and recalibrated the sensor. Total bill came to 62€. Everything's working perfectly again! Thanks a ton for the suggestion, it really saved me a headache!

I also drive a Kuga and had somewhat the same issue last year. The symptoms sound very similar. Check for any bubbles forming under the gel pad, where the rain sensor is glued to the windshield. That's what was causing all sorts of weird errors in my car's system.
