Yeah, it does squeal a bit on start-up, especially when it's cold. And the engine performance feels kinda off. Was it definitely the tensioner on your Astra, and how much did that set you back?

Pretty sure it was the tensioner. I ended up taking it to a workshop and they sorted it out for me - sounded similar to what's happening with yours. Best to get it checked out, could save you further damage.

I'll get it booked in. Turns out, the 'belt bringer/handover itself' was indeed buggered. Cost me 455€ to fix. Thanks for the advice!

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was a petrol engine. Is it making a weird noise, like a squeal, especially when you start it up or put a load on the engine?
