Laguna Electrical Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Renault Laguna with a gasoline engine was experiencing electrical issues, including weak starts and flickering lights, particularly in cold weather. Initial checks showed clean battery terminals, leading to suspicion of a failing alternator. However, a suggestion to check the battery sensor revealed it as the culprit. After replacing the faulty sensor, the electrical issues were resolved, eliminating weak starts and flickering lights.

Thank you for your reply! I haven't specifically checked the voltage readings from the sensor. Where exactly is the battery sensor located, and is it something I can test with a multimeter, or does it require specialized equipment?

The battery sensor is usually attached directly to the negative terminal of the battery. While you might be able to get a basic voltage reading with a multimeter, interpreting the data accurately requires knowing the expected values under different load conditions. It might be best to take it to a workshop for proper diagnostics. They can perform a battery test and check the sensor readings with specialized equipment. Could save you a lot of time and potential misdiagnosis.

Much appreciated! I took your advice and brought the Laguna to a trusted mechanic. It was indeed the battery sensor. They replaced it, and after the labor costs, the total came to 315€. No more weak starts or flickering lights! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

I had a similar issue with my Laguna recently. It turned out to be the battery sensor. Have you checked the voltage readings from the sensor itself? A faulty sensor can give incorrect data to the car's computer, leading to charging problems and those symptoms you describe.
