Laguna rough cold start and fuel economy issue

I'm having trouble with my 2003 Renault Laguna diesel. It's running rough when I start it up in cold weather. I've also noticed a dip in fuel economy and the diagnostic tool is showing an error. Seems like it might be related to the PTC heater. Has anyone experienced something similar? I suspect the electric auxiliary heater is faulty.

I know that feel. I've had a similar headache with my Laguna. Poor engine running in cold starts sounds very familiar. It was like trying to start a stubborn donkey on a winter morning. Is the error code pointing towards the heating element or the temperature control system?

The error does seem to indicate the heating element itself. Did you notice a significant drop in fuel consumption as well? And what did you end up doing to fix it?

Yes, the fuel consumption definitely took a hit, like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it. Given your symptoms and the error code, it's highly likely the auxiliary heater. It's best to get it checked by a workshop; it’s probably a defective electric auxiliary heater.

Thanks for the insight. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll book it in with a workshop and get them to check the PTC heater. I suspect the repair cost will be around 350€.
