Laguna VANOS Fault Fuel Consumption

Laguna owner here. I had similar symptoms. Have you checked for oil sludge? It could be clogging things and messing with the variable timing. Is the timing chain okay?

Oil sludge? Interesting. I've been good about oil changes, but you never know. How did you diagnose the sludge issue? And what's the best way to check the timing chain?

I didn't diagnose it myself. I took it to a workshop, and they scoped it. It's worth doing before replacing VANOS solenoids. They will check the timing chain as well.

Good point! No point in blindly replacing parts. I'll book it in for a diagnosis. Thanks for the advice! It was the VANOS solenoid after all, plus a flush to clear out some gunk. 250€ later, and she's running smoothly again.
