Laguna Wiper Failure

Hi, I've got a 2003 Renault Laguna with a diesel engine and the wipers have completely stopped working. The car has only done 60256 km. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Diagnostics show an error stored in the memory related to the wiper system. I suspect it's a faulty connection somewhere, maybe a dodgy cable or plug. Has anyone encountered something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Renault Laguna's wipers have stopped working, with diagnostics indicating an error in the wiper system. The initial suspicion is a faulty connection, possibly a defective cable or plug. Suggestions include checking the wiper motor's connector block, ground connections, and the steering column wiring harness for damage. A thorough inspection by a qualified workshop is recommended to accurately diagnose and resolve the issue.

I had a similar problem with my Laguna, although I can't recall the exact model year. The symptoms you describe align with my experience. I would advise checking the wiper motor's connector block, as well as the ground connections in that area. Also, inspect the steering column wiring harness for any signs of damage. Did you happen to check the stalk switch?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the stalk switch visually, but I haven't tested it with a multimeter yet. When you had the issue, did the diagnostics point to a specific component, or was it a more general error? Did you end up replacing the wiper motor, or was it just a wiring issue?

The diagnostics were quite vague, unfortunately. It indicated a general fault within the wiper system, so there was no finger pointing. Considering the age of the vehicle, and the fact that you're getting an error code, I would strongly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop. A thorough inspection, including testing the switch, wiring harness and motor, is necessary to pinpoint the problem. The risk of misdiagnosis and unnecessary component replacement is too high otherwise.

Thanks for the advice! I suspected it might be more involved than a simple fix. I'll take it to a shop. They've quoted me around 95€, mentioning it was indeed a defective cable or plug connection to the component. Hopefully, that sorts it out. Appreciate your input!
