Land Cruiser rough running stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2004 gasoline Land Cruiser with 155,664 km is experiencing rough running, stalling, and reduced power, with the check engine light on. Possible causes include a rich mixture, intake manifold issues, catalytic converter problems, air-fuel ratio imbalance, or a faulty mass airflow sensor. The solution involved diagnosing and replacing a defective fuel injector, which was causing a mixture preparation error, ultimately resolving the issue and restoring smooth operation.

Injection valves/injectors, huh? Interesting! Haven't checked those specifically. How can I tell if they're defective? Can I do it myself, or is it best left to a professional? Also, what exactly does 'mixture preparation error' mean? Could it damage other parts, like the catalytic converter?

Diagnosing injectors can be tricky without the right tools. You could try listening to them with a stethoscope to see if they're clicking properly, but honestly, it's best to take it to a workshop. Mixture preparation error simply means the engine isn't getting the correct air-fuel ratio. A faulty mixture can definitely damage the catalytic converter over time. I really suggest you go to a workshop, so you don't make the issue worse.

Thanks so much for your help! I took it to my local mechanic. You were spot on! Defective fuel injector, causing a mixture preparation error. The repair ended up costing me 515€, but at least my Land Cruiser is running smoothly again! I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

I had a similar issue with my Land Cruiser. Reduced power, rough running, the works. Have you looked at the injection valves/injectors? My mechanic said a defective injector can cause mixture preparation error and all the symptoms you described. How old are your injectors, and have they ever been cleaned or replaced?
